Tsomgo Lake

Every journey leaves you with a story

About Tsomgo Lake

Situated at an altitude of 12,400 feet, Tsomgo Lake (also known as Changu Lake) is one of the most stunning high-altitude lakes in Sikkim. It is a glacial lake that changes colours throughout the seasons, like greenish blue in summer, frozen white in winter, and dotted with flowers during spring. Located around 40 km from Gangtok, it is also a sacred site for the locals. One can also see Yaks and mules around the lake.

If you’re planning your Sikkim Tour Packages, exploring Tsomgo Lake should definitely be on your list. For travelers, Tsomgo Lake is a picture-perfect destination offering adventure, spirituality, and peace in one frame. The lake is popular among everyone who visits Sikkim. During winter, walking on the frozen surface becomes a thrilling experience, while in summer, you can enjoy yak rides here.

Best Time to Visit Tsomgo Lake:

The best time to visit Tsomgo Lake is from April to May and again from October to December. During these months, the lake is either partly frozen or beautifully clear, offering breathtaking reflections of the surrounding peaks. Spring welcomes colorful alpine flowers, while autumn and early winter present snow-covered landscapes.

Heavy winters (January–March) can block roads due to snowfall, but adventurous travelers may still enjoy the sight of a fully frozen lake. Monsoon (June–September) is less favorable due to landslides and slippery roads. For a perfect blend of accessibility and beauty, plan your trip in spring or autumn.

How to Reach Tsomgo Lake:

Reaching Tsomgo Lake is an iconic adventure in itself; you drive through scenic mountains and panoramic views of the Himalayas. Since it is a high-altitude attraction, a special permit is required for both Indian and foreign tourists. This adds to the uniqueness of Tsomgo Lake tourism, ensuring the region stays pristine and well-protected.
